Rebates

Water heating can account for 18% of your energy bill.

It's possible to reduce these costs by upgrading to a more efficient hot water system.

Hot Water Rebates

When upgrading your hot water system, you are eligible for up to 3 Victorian rebates:

STC’s - Available On All New Heat Pump Systems

Your new system may be eligible for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs).

This is effectively a payment made to purchasers of small renewable energy systems for the value of the emissions they help reduce.

The quoted price of the system from your installer will have the STC discount included in the final price.

VEEC’s - Available When Upgrading Either Gas or Electric Hot Water Units.

The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program provides incentives for households to replace inefficient electric storage, gas storage, or gas instantaneous hot water systems.

To be eligible to upgrade your hot water system and get a discount, you must:

  • Be a Victorian household with an inefficient electric or gas hot water system.

If you’re living in a private rental property, you are eligible to receive a discount on a hot water system.

We recommend that landlords and tenants work together when doing any upgrades to a rental property.

Only products meeting the VEU program requirements can be installed under this program. There are two types of efficient hot water systems you can install under the VEU program:

  • Heat pump hot water systems
  • Electric boosted solar hot water systems.

It is important to choose a hot water system that is a suitable size for your household.

Every household is unique, and this impacts what size is appropriate. You can run out of hot water if your system is too small.

$1,000 Vic Solar Hot Water Rebate – This is Means Tested and Special Criteria Apply*

As a Victorian householder, you could receive a hot water rebate if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are the owner-occupier of an existing property where the system is to be installed.
  • The combined household taxable income of all owners is less than $210,000 per year.
  • The property is valued at under $3 million and the property address has not previously received a hot water rebate or a solar battery rebate under the Solar Homes Program.
  • The hot water system to be replaced is at least three years old from the date of purchase.
  • Householders cannot receive the same Solar Homes rebate more than once.

For example, if a householder has previously received a hot water rebate, they cannot receive another hot water rebate for the same property.

Once you're confident that you and your property meet the eligibility criteria, you can start the application process.

Space Heating Rebates

You can reduce costs by replacing old heating and cooling systems with more energy-efficient systems or purchasing new ones.

All Victorian households and businesses are eligible to apply for discounts.

To get a discount on the installation of a heating and cooling system you must:

Install an Approved Product

Hint: research these products for their suitability and quality. There are a lot of products approved for installation as part of VEU. Not all products are of the same quality or suitable for every environment.

Work With an Accredited Provider

Get quotes from several providers. Accredited providers offer different types of products, services, expertise and costs. Make sure to get a quote from several accredited providers on the final installed price of the appliance, which includes the discount.

Decommission Your Existing Heating and Cooling System.

The final installed price of the appliance, which includes the discount, is up to the accredited provider and will depend on several factors, including:

  • certificate price (which fluctuates)
  • location
  • installation costs
  • the accredited provider’s administrative costs.

This rebate will be discounted from your quote.

VEEC value varies on a daily basis.

Please note all STC/VEEC rebates are GST excluding.
